Lost VW ID.4 Key?
Lease Car Sorted.
Today’s VW ID.4 key replacement in Ashton-under-Lyne involved a customer who had lost a key to their leased, 2024-plate electric car. With a missing-key charge to consider, they wanted it sorted before handing the vehicle back.
Manchester Unlocked completed the replacement key work and gave the customer’s existing key some attention too: an original VW casing, a recased old key, a newly cut blade and fresh batteries in both keys.

Manchester Unlocked, this guy is a genuine craftsman, i was left with a none running vehicle by a so called expert who diagnosed faulty key, then said faulty battery and then blamed faulty starter, all these components had not failed. I then had to get my vehicle recovered home. I rang a few companies who didn't want to take it on after someone else had made a mess of it. I called Carl @ Mcr Unlocked and explained , he arranged to attend at my home, I recognised that this guy knew what he was doing within minutes, he set about finding out what the other guy had managed to corrupt and damage and disassembled, repaired and rebuilt everything until I finally had my car back up and running and able to lock securely. I cannot recommend Carl ( MANCHESTER UNLOCKED) Enough. This guy has the knowledge, the equipment and the skill and tenacity in heaps and his bill was less than his initial quote. Thanks again Carl. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Bernard Ryan, in Wigan.Posted on Google![]()

Great service, messaged on Sunday evening and Carl got back to me straight away, agreed a fob replacement the next morning. Carl arrived on time, was very polite and the cost was around a third of the dealer price and of course came to me. I'd highly recommend.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. A lost key on a leased electric Volkswagen
Losing a car key is frustrating at the best of times. In this case, the vehicle was on lease, and the customer would have faced a charge for returning it without the required key. There was still an existing key to work on, so this was a missing-key replacement job rather than an all-keys-lost situation.
The vehicle was a 2024-plate Volkswagen ID.4, and the job took place in Ashton-under-Lyne. Being electric didn’t remove the need for the right key programming process.
A replacement key and a refresh for the existing one
Replacement key work
We completed the key programming work for this ID.4, dealing with the newer SFD2 security protection on the vehicle.
Original VW casing
An original Volkswagen casing was used, and the customer’s old key was recased as part of the job.
Blade and batteries
A new blade was cut and new batteries were fitted to both keys.
The work went beyond replacing the missing key. The existing key was refreshed as well, rather than being left in its old casing with its old battery.

Working with SFD2 on this 2024 VW ID.4
This vehicle had the newer SFD2 security protection. We worked past that restriction to complete the key job. It’s a detail worth mentioning because the model and year alone don’t tell the whole story when arranging replacement keys.
This case describes the vehicle we worked on today. For another ID.4, we’ll check the requirements before confirming the work. Send your registration, vehicle year and details of any working keys when you get in touch.
Check your keys before the handover date
If you’ve lost a key to a lease car, it’s worth checking the return requirements while you still have time to arrange a replacement. Ask your leasing company what they expect and how they handle missing keys.
For this customer, replacing the missing key addressed the issue they were concerned about before the car went back.
